Red Alert Eclipses 4,000 Members for Second-Straight Year

Sept. 15, 2008

NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State athletics department has issued more than 4,000 "Red Alert" passes, and the student group has reached 4,000 strong for the second-consecutive year. The registered student organization passed the plateau over the weekend, and had a recorded total of 4,108 Monday.

"Our Red Alert membership numbers continue to significantly grow each year, and it is a testament to the pride and excitement that Illinois State students have demonstrated for the Redbird athletic programs," said Assistant Athletics Director for Marketing and Promotions Brad Ledford.

"It is a great time to be a Redbird, and we look forward to the growth of `Red Alert' in future years. Reaching 4,000 members in two-consecutive years is a great testament to our student support."

The "Red Alert" pass replaced the "All-Sport Ticket" in June 2006, after only 1,800 All-Sport Tickets were sold. The organization is aimed at instilling pride, spirit and tradition for the ISU Athletics Department. "Red Alert" pass holders receive first priority for available student tickets and/or admission to regular-season home athletics events, although it does not guarantee a ticket or admission. Cost is $40, and can be billed to a students' university account.

The pass includes priority-seating privileges for football, volleyball, men's and women's basketball, baseball and softball games. Members also receive up-to-the-minute updates and information about upcoming promotions via e-mail and "Red Alert E-News."

Other benefits include a free "Red Alert" t-shirt, which members are encouraged to wear to games; 10 percent off Redbird apparel at the Alamo II bookstore during the months of Sept. and Feb., and a Redbird meal deal, in which members can receive a hot dog, drink and bag of chips for just $4 at both Hancock Stadium and Redbird Arena.

"Red Alert" members are also admitted 15 minutes earlier than the general public and non-"Red Alert" pass holders to ISU football, volleyball and men's and women's basketball contests.

To sign up or renew a 2007-08 membership, visit the "Red Alert" page on GoRedbirds.com, or call the Redbird Athletics Ticket Office at (309) 438-8000. "Red Alert" passes will also be available for sale at Saturday's home football opener against Eastern Illinois.
