LAWRENCE, Kan. -
Head coach Darby Sligh and the Illinois State women's golf team will travel to Lawrence, Kan., to compete in the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational. The tournament is being hosted by Kansas and will be held at the Alvamar Public Golf Course Monday and Tuesday. The two-day event will be made up of 16 teams, who will play 36-holes on Monday and finish up the competition with 18-holes on Tuesday.
Sligh hopes that the experience of playing in the Wolverine Invitational will lead to success during the team's second of five fall tournaments.
"After getting the first tournament under our belts, I'm really looking for big things to happen this weekend in Kansas," Sligh said. "Laura Harris continues to step up and play well, so I hope to see more of the same from her. This is a good tournament, with a strong field to showcase what we can do and I'm looking forward to another successful week."
The Redbirds' lineup will include senior Marci Hill, juniors Laura Harris, Britt Knutson and Stacey Miller, while sophomore Terra Miller will round out the top-five. Junior Christine Larson will be competing individually.
The field of competition is composed of Coastal Carolina, Kansas, Kansas State, Kennesaw State, Missouri-Kansas City, Nebraska, who will field two teams, North Texas, Oral Roberts, Oklahoma City, Redlands Community College and South Florida. ISU will also compete against three Missouri Valley Conference members: Creighton, Northern Iowa and Wichita State.
The course is measured at 6,242 yards with par being 72. Both days will begin with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.
