HAMILTON, Canada -
Former Illinois State quarterback Kevin Glenn threw for a season-high 368 yards with two touchdowns and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers edged the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, 25-23, in the annual Hall of Fame game from Ivor Wynne Stadium.
Glenn, who was 28-of-37 passing, helped improve the Bombers' (4-8) playoff picture significantly, as Winnipeg moved into a tie for second place with Toronto in the East Division with eight points. Toronto travels to Calgary for a Sunday tilt in the first of a home-and-home matchup.
Derick Armstrong caught seven passes for 126 yards and a touchdown while Terrence Edwards also nabbed seven balls, with 100 yards receiving and a score. Fred Reid ran for 63 yards on 12 carries.
A single from Nick Setta started the scoring but Winnipeg answered with a 63-yard touchdown strike from Glenn to Armstrong and the Bombers held a 7-1 lead after one quarter.
Hamilton opened the second quarter with an 18-yard touchdown from Printers to Scott Mitchell for an 8-7 advantage. The Bombers reacquired the lead, however, on a 26-yard field goal from Alexis Serna and a safety made it 12-8 Winnipeg. Glenn then hooked up with Edwards on a 19-yard score for a 19-8 halftime lead.
The game remained tight in the fourth, after Hamilton scored another touchdown making it a 24-22 game, but the teams traded singles down the stretch and the Bombers' escaped with a 25-23 victory.
