Krapf Named Valley Athlete of the Week

Sept. 23, 2008

ST.LOUIS - Illinois State junior Scott Krapf was named as the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Cross Country Athlete of the Week as announced by the league office Tuesday evening.

In his first race of the season and for a second-straight year, Krapf was the top-finisher for the Redbirds at the Illinois Intercollegiate Championships (Sept. 19), crossing the finish line in fourth-place in a field of 250 competitors. Krpaf recorded a time of 24:44 in the 8K race to lead Illinois State to a second-place finish out of 26 colleges and universities from the state of Illinois.

"Scott went out and preformed at a high level against top-runners from the State of Illinois and in his first race of the year has gotten off with a great start," Illinois State head coach Jeff Bovee said. "This is a nice reward for him and all the hard work that he has put in and shows that his summer training has really paid off. Hopefully this is just the beginning of some great things for him this season."

Illinois State returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 27, when the men's and women's teams travel to Augustana College in Rock Island, Ill., for the Brissman-Luden Invitational at the Sauki Golf Course.
