The Illinois State men's tennis team will be sending senior Daniel Tobar and sophomore Filip Miljevic to represent the squad this weekend at the Wildcat Invite in Evanston, Ill. The tournament begins Friday at 11 a.m., with singles and doubles competition and concludes Sunday. This is the first tournament of the season for both players.
The invite will consist of nine schools, including host Northwestern, Illinois State, Michigan State, Minnesota, Western Michigan, DePaul, Toledo, Bradley and Iowa. Each participant is guaranteed between three-to-five singles matches and two-to-four doubles matches depending on how far they advance.
"Daniel and Filip look solid in practice," said head coach Cris James. "We will be playing tougher teams at the tournament. I am always trying to find what areas we need to improve on. I hope the guys can use each match to their advantage and learn from them."
Tobar and Miljevic are hoping to gain ground this weekend.
"Daniel has become a more mature player," said James. "I hope his maturity translates into success in competition. When Filip joined the team last year, he had a difficult time adjusting. It wasn't too long before he started playing well and moved quickly up in the lineup. I would like to see how he handles the competition this weekend."
