EVANSTON, Ill. -
Senior Daniel Tobar came through for the Illinois State men's tennis team with a win to advance into the next round of singles play at the Wildcat Invitational Friday.
In singles action, Tobar won his first Flight B singles match against Clark Richardson (Michigan State) in super tiebreaker, 4-6, 7-6, (10-8). In Flight A singles, sophomore Filip Miljevic fell to the No. 7 tournament seed Ron Hulewicz of Michigan State, 6-4, 5-7, (10-7).
Tobar and Miljevic were outlasted by DePaul's Jose Moncada and Alasdair Graetz, 8-4 in the first round of doubles competition Friday.
"We fought hard, but we didn't play at our highest level," said head coach Cris James. "I am not sure if it was first match nerves or a mental block. Either way we need to translate what we learn in practice over to competition."
The tournament continues with singles play Saturday at 8 a.m.
