NORMAL, Ill. -
Three former Illinois State football players were in action Sunday, with Boomer Grigsby (Miami Dolphins) and Laurént Robinson (Atlanta Falcons) playing in the NFL and Kevin Glenn (Winnipeg Blue Bombers) playing in Canadian League Football (CFL) action.
Glenn posted the biggest numbers of the day, throwing for 256 yards and two touchdowns on 21-for-29 passing, but 20 fourth-quarter points by Saskatchewan resulted in a 34-31 come-from-behind victory for the Roughriders. Winnipeg led 31-14 heading into the final quarter thanks to a pair of Glenn touchdown passes to Terrence Edwards, but it wasn't enough as the Blue Bombers fell to 2-8 on the season.
Grigsby saw his first game action with Miami, after spending three seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs. Grigsby played fullback for the Dolphins, but his lone statistic came on special teams as Grigsby tackled the New York Jets' Leon Washington on a punt return late in the second quarter. Grigsby and the Dolphins dropped their season opener at home, 20-14.
Robinson was the lone victor Sunday, as the Falcons downed Detroit 34-21, in Atlanta. Robinson saw game action as a reserve, but did not record a stat.
Former Redbird Aveion Cason would have also played in that game, but Cason suffered a severe ankle sprain in the Lions' third preseason game and was placed on injured reserve for the season.
