ST. LOUIS -
For the second time this season, Illinois State's Champ Oguchi was tabbed as the Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week after the Redbird senior was selected for the honor Monday by the league office.
Oguchi averaged 20 points per game over two contests last week, which was highlighted by a career-high 29-point performance against Drake Wednesday. He shot 9-for-17 (.529) from three-point land during the two games, while averaging 5.5 rebounds per game. Oguchi also added eight steals for the week, with four steals apiece in each game.
The Houston, Texas native also won the league's newcomer of the week award Nov. 24. It is also the third time an Illinois State player has been selected for the honor with junior Lloyd Phillips winning the award once.
Oguchi and the Redbirds return to action Wednesday night when Illinois State travels to Wichita State for a 7:05 p.m. tip-off.
