Myers To Be Inducted Into Juniata College Sports Hall of Fame

Jan. 30, 2009

HUNTINGDON, Pa. - Illinois State head volleyball coach Melissa Myers will be inducted into the Juniata College Sports Hall of Fame Jan. 31 in recognition of her achievements as a volleyball and track and field student-athlete. Myers is the only two-sport All-American in the history of Juniata.

"I was fortunate to be surrounded by quality people at Juniata, from my coaches and teammates to the professors, support staff and student body. Everyone at Juniata played a pivotal role in my success," Myers said. "The environment at Juniata allowed me to grow as a student-athlete and as a person. For that, I'm indebted to them. To be recognized by Juniata is an honor."

Myers was a four-year letterwinner in both volleyball and track and field at Juniata. A three-year starting right side hitter, Myers excelled in her senior season, receiving Middle Atlantic Conference Player of the Year and AVCA All-American honors. Myers earned All-America honors in track and field when she finished sixth in the shot put with a Juniata-record throw at the NCAA Championships. She broke her own shot put record which she set at the MAC Championships a few weeks earlier. She also holds the Juniata record in the pentathlon.

Myers will be inducted with former football player David Croft and former men's volleyball player Tim Shawaryn in the 2008 class, giving the Juniata Sports Hall of Fame 111 members.
