Start of Baseball Series Postponed, Alumni Event Cancelled

Oct. 16, 2009

NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State baseball's fall series opener at Duffy Bass Field has been postponed and the alumni event set for Saturday morning has been cancelled due to soggy conditions and anticipated cold temperatures, the baseball office announced Friday.

The Redbirds were set to play the first of a scheduled three-game, intra-squad series Saturday, but will move the start of the series to Monday at 4 p.m. The baseball team's alumni tent event, held in conjunction with the homecoming festivities has been cancelled and will not be made up.

The baseball staff worked with Illinois State's facilities and grounds crew Friday afternoon in an attempt to make the field playable, but continued overcast skies and intermittent showers made the task impossible.

The fall series will continue with game two on Wednesday at 4 p.m., and a time and date for the series finale will be announced at GoRedbirds.com when it becomes available. All three games are open to the general public and student body, and admission is free.
