Redbirds to Conclude Fall Season at Hawkeye Invitational

Oct. 16, 2009

NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State women's golf hopes to finish the fall season on top at the Hawkeye Invitational Oct. 17-18 in Iowa City, Iowa. The 13-team playing field will compete at the par-72, 6,202-yard Finkbine Golf Course, with 36-holes to be played on Saturday and the final 18-holes on Sunday.

Leading the Redbirds will be senior Stacey Miller, who fired a 226 (72-75-79) last week (Oct. 6) at the Johnie Imes Invitational and helped the `Birds to a fifth-place finish. For her performance, Miller was awarded Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week for the second time this season. Joining Miller will be seniors Marisa Milligan, Laura Harris, Britt Knutson and Christine Larson. Sophomore Hannah Bachman will be competing as an individual.

"We are looking to finish this fall season on a strong note," said head coach Darby Sligh. "The girls have played consistently well all fall, and we are hoping to capitalize on a line-up of experienced seniors. Finkbine requires players to be precise on their approach shots, as well as be smart on the greens. I believe we are prepared for the challenge."

The 12-team playing field, in addition to Illinois State, includes Ball State (MAC), Drake (Missouri Valley), Illinois (Big Ten), Iowa (Big Ten), Iowa State (Big 12), Kennesaw State (Atlantic Sun), Missouri State (Missouri Valley), Northern Iowa (Missouri Valley), Oakland (Summit League), Sacramento State (Big Sky), South Dakota State (Summit League) and Washington State (Pac-10).

Play will begin with an 8 a.m. shotgun start on Saturday, followed by 8 a.m. split tee times on Sunday.
