Illinois State men's tennis players Filip Miljevic and Alexander Pelaez teamed up to defeat Toledo's Robbie McCallum and Sven Burus at the Wilson/ITA Midwest Regionals on Saturday. Miljevic and Pelaez cruised past the tournament's sixteenth ranked doubles team, 8-2. The duo is one of the final 16 teams remaining in the doubles main draw bracket. Head coach Cris James was glad to see a doubles team advance to the next round.

"Filip and Alex played fantastic," James said. "Any time you can beat a seeded team that's good."

In consolation play, the Redbirds played a total of seven matches on Saturday. Timon Reichelt and Matej Zlatkovic came away with victories against tough opponents. Reichelt outlasted Northwestern's Mark Schanerman, 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (8). Zlatkovic beat Pablo Olivares of Western Michigan, 6-2, 6-7 (5), 1-0 (7).

"Matej and Timon both had close matches," James said. "They were able to win those matches and it was good for them. Overall, it's been a long weekend for some of the guys but we played better in singles (Saturday)."

Three other Redbirds doubles pairs lost on Saturday. The regional field proved to be too tough for the team.

"We're getting better in doubles," James said. "We lost some tough matches but I think the team is buying in and learning to compete on the doubles court. Our communication and chemistry is good, we just have to trust each other."

Miljevic and Pelaez will play Ohio State's Matt Allare and Shuhei Uzawa on Sunday. Live stats and video of the action can be found by following the link below.
