Illinois State senior Stacey Miller ended the first day in third place through hole fifteen of her second round at the Hawkeye Invitational in Iowa City, Iowa. The second round of the two-day tournament was suspended due to darkness, and will be completed along with the final 18-holes on Sunday (Oct. 17th.) at the Finkbine Golf Course.
"Today was an all around tough day for us," said head coach Darby Sligh. "The course played tough and we were unable to get anything started, although I am proud of the way we battled through the cold."
Miller fired the lowest first-round score for ISU, with a five-over par 77. One stroke behind Miller, senior Britt Knutson and senior Laura Harris both carded a six-over par 78. Senior Marisa Milligan and senior Christine Larson weren't far behind, posting an eight-over par 80 in the first round of the tournament. Sophomore Hannah Bachman, competing as an individual, shot an 86.
The Redbirds ended the first round with a team score of 313.
Unable to finish the second round, Miller holds a 15-hole score of 60 going into the second day to place in third individually. Knutson ended the day having completed 12 holes of her second round with a score of 53. Milligan and Harris are through hole 13. Milligan holds a score of 58, while Harris posted a 13-hole score of 61. Larson has one hole left in the second round, with a 17-hole score of 81.
The `Birds ended the first day in sixth place as a team, firing an incomplete, second-round score of 232 to be continued Saturday.
"Stacey played really solid golf the second round, and I'm happy for her to be holding it together for us," Sligh said. "Tomorrow is a new day and we're looking forward to finishing out this season on a positive note."
