Final Stats

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Led by senior Scott Krapf and junior Sarah Glowacki, the Illinois State men's and women's cross country teams competed in the highly competitive 2009 Brooks Pre-Nationals meet Saturday. The event, which was hosted by Indiana State, was held on the LeVerne Gibson Championship Course. Krapf was the first Redbird to cross the finish line in the men's 8K Blue race in a time of 24:55.10, while Glowacki finished the race in a time of 22:08.70.

The Redbird men finished in 26th place out of a field of 34 nationally and regionally-ranked teams. Nationally-ranked Oregon won the men's Blue race with 79 points, while Oregon's Luke Puskedra won top-individual honors after finishing the race in 23:40.20.

The ISU women took 26th place out of a field of 37 teams. Nationally-ranked Washington won the women's 6K White race with 59 points, while Illinois' Angela Bizzarri was the first individual to cross the finish line in 20:27.80.

"Both the men and the women ran at their pre-race projections," said head cross country coach Jeff Bovee. "However, we were hoping to work our way into the top-20 teams."

Two Redbird men finished the race in the top-100. Krapf finished the race in 77th place, while junior Matt Mroczynski finished in 93rd place in 25:05.30. Junior Jon Roberts finished the race in a time of 25:32.10, which put him in 129th place.

Freshmen Kevin Forde and Gerardo Perez finished the race in 175th and 196th, respectively. Forde finished in a time of 26:02.90, while Perez ran a 26:17.80.

"Kevin continues to improve and looked very good today," said Bovee. "He is coming into his own and is focused going into the last half of the season. We have two weeks to prepare for the Missouri Valley Conference meet, and I believe both teams will be in the hunt for the MVC titles."

The top-five Redbird women crossed the finish line at the 22-minute mark. Glowacki finished in 102nd place. Crossing the finish line second for the Redbird women was junior Kirsten Lang, who ran the 6K race in 22:19.40, and finished in 113th place.

"It was the first time Sarah has been the first one across the finish line for us in her Redbird career," said Bovee. "She had a great day. Aisha stepped up and had a nice day, and she is building momentum going into conference. The women haven't gotten all of the pieces to come together yet, but I believe it will happen in two weeks at the (MVC) conference meet. The Wichita State women ran well and are the team to beat at the MVC meet."

Junior Jess Husted, sophomore Aisha Praught and freshman Brea Tinney crossed the finish line in 126th, 154th and 167th place, respectively. Husted finished the race in a time of 22:25.00, while Praught crossed the finish line in 22:43.00. Tinney ran the race in a time of 22.55.40.

The Redbirds will return to action next Friday (Oct. 23) at the Illini Open in Champaign, Ill. The race will begin at 4 p.m.
