NORMAL, Ill. -
After claiming the individual title at the Hawkeye Invitational Oct. 18, Illinois State senior Stacey Miller was named Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week. It was Miller's third time earning MVC Golfer of the Week this season.
Miller captured first place with a three-round score of 224 (77-73-74) at the Finkbine Golf Course in Iowa City, Iowa. The Redbirds placed in sixth as a team, firing a 938 (313-314-311).
"Once again Stacey is proving herself, not only as a force in the Missouri Valley, but in the country as well," said head coach Darby Sligh. "Her consistency each week is really paying off and she has shown that she can compete for titles week in and week out. I'm excited to see what's next for her this spring"
In the first round, Miller fired a five-over par 77 to end the day in third place individually. Shooting a one-over par 73 in the second round and a two-over par 74 in the final round, Miller climbed two places to finish the fall season with a win.
In addition, Miller is ranked second in the MVC and 130th in the nation. ISU is ranked first in the Valley as a team.
The invitational concluded the `Bird's fall season. ISU will kick off the spring season on January 30, 2010 at the Illinois Challenge in Venice, Fla. The tournament will be held at the Sarasota National Golf Club.
