Women's Tennis Heads Home Early from Regionals

CHICAGO, Ill. - The Illinois State women's tennis team is heading home after doubles pair Julia Zubkova and Franziska Steinhardt lost in Saturday's tournament at the Wilson/ITA Midwest Regional Championships. The duo was the only ISU team remaining in the tournament after being eliminated from singles play.

Zubkova and Steinhardt were bested by Samantha Murray and Stacey Lee of Northwestern, 8-3.

Head coach Chris Hoover believes it was a weekend of tough competition.

"It was a rough weekend," Hoover said. "I think that our doubles is improving and I don't think that were as bad as our showing. I thought Franziska and Julia had a good win on Friday. We could've won against Northwestern today but didn't execute shots."

The Illinois State women's tennis team with be back on the courts Nov. 7-8, at the Purdue Invitational in West Lafayette, Ind. The three-day invitational will wrap up the `Birds fall season.
