Prorok Earns Second-Straight MVC Diver of the Week Award

Oct. 28, 2009

NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State diver Katelyn Prorok won her second-consecutive Missouri Valley Conference Diver of the Week honor Wednesday, as announced by the league office. Prorok was awarded the honor after qualifying for the NCAA Zone C Regional diving competition during last Friday night's triangular home opener against MVC competitor Evansville and Big 12 foe Iowa State.

Prorok dove past the qualifying score on 1-meter with a final score of 266.35. In her qualifying effort, Prorok out-performed her season-bests from the previous week on both the 1- and 3-meter boards and currently leads the Missouri Valley Conference on both boards with her season-best scores of 266.35 and 265.60. The Redbird diver finished in second-place overall on both boards, but took first between the conference foes.

Diving coach Phil Hoffmann feels the weekend's competition fueled Prorok to perform.

"It's always a good feeling to be recognized when you are competing against one of your conference foes," Hoffmann said. "Iowa State always has impressive divers, and I think that competing against them and Evansville this weekend really pushed Katelyn to perform the way that she did."

Now that qualifying for regionals is complete, Prorok plans to focus on preparing herself for the upcoming dual-meets between Western and Illinois, as well as the Akron Invitational in December.

Hoffmann looks forward to how the season will progress.

"We are excited to see who will be joining Katelyn at regionals this year," Hoffmann said. "People usually start to qualify within the next few weeks and it will be interesting to see some people's performances and who the competition will be."

Prorok is currently the only diver from the Missouri Valley Conference to qualify for regionals.
