With just four weekends left in the Missouri Valley Conference regular season, every team is trying to jocky for better position in the conference torunament field. Illinois State enters this weekend tied with Southern Illinois for seventh place in the Valley (4-7), and both teams are one match behind Evansville (5-6). Evansville has never won a match at Redbird Arena and Southern Illinois hasn't won in Normal since 1990.

Redbirds-Salukis Series
Illinois State leads the all-time series with Southern Illinois, 62-5. The series began in 1974 and ISU won the first six meetings before SIU logged its first win in 1977. After four more Redbird wins, the Salukis won consecutive matches for the first time in 1981. Since then, ISU has won 51 of the last 53 matches, including 36-straight regular-season matches. Southern Illinois’ last regular season win was Oct. 12, 1990 and the Salukis’ last win overall came in the 2002 State Farm MVC Tournament. ISU has 13-straight over SIU, sweeping the season series the last six years.

Redbirds-Purple Aces Series
Illinois State leads the all-time series with Evansville, 29-2. The two teams have met twice annually since 1994, when the Purple Aces joined the Valley. The Redbirds swept the season series every year until 2006, when the Purple Aces claimed their first victory in straight-sets at home. ISU had won five-straight since then, until the Purple Aces won in five sets at home earlier this season.

Leggett Joins 1,000 Kill Club
With the first two of her season-high 21 kills against Drake, junior Mallory Leggett became the 18th player in Illinois State history to accumulate 1,000 kills in her career. Leggett was the first since former teammate M.C. Richmond did last season. Leggett also has 963 career digs, closing in on becoming the fourth player in ISU history to have 1,000 in both categories.
