TULSA, Okla. -
Day One Results in PDF Format
Illinois State's Filip Miljevic and Matej Zlatkovic won their first matches in Saturday's competition at the D'Novo/ITA Men's All-American Championships at the University of Tulsa. Head coach Cris James did not travel with the team to Tulsa, Okla. but was able to watch the matches live online.
"We produced some solid results today," James said. "It's good for Filip and Matej to get the wins and advance to the next round."
Miljevic was able to beat Cleveland State's Phil Orno, 6-4, 2-6, (10-7). The two had faced off last weekend at the Ball State Invitational and Orno came out on top, but Miljevic was the winner in Saturday's rematch. Zlatkovic faced off against Alabama's Michael Davis and won, 7-5, 6-1. In Saturday's early action Skip Span was defeated by New Mexico's Conor Berg, 7-6 (5), 6-0. In the afternoon Timon Reichelt was downed by Juan Gomez of San Diego State, 6-3, 6-3.
"Skip and Timon had tough matches," James said. "Skip just needed to capitalize on his opportunities. I think if he would've been able to win the first set that match would have turned out differently. Timon played against a seeded player and was competitive with him. He was in the match but I would've liked to see him be more aggressive."
Third and fourth-round play will continue tomorrow from the Michael D. Case Tennis Center at the University of Tulsa. Miljevic will square off against UC Santa Barbara's Scott Hohenstein and Zlatkovic will play Zac Tsai from UC Irvine.
