Redbirds Look to Add Another Victory to Dual-Meet Record

Oct. 30, 2009

NORMAL, Ill. - Going into the fifth consecutive week of competition, Illinois State's swimming and diving team will host Western Illinois at Horton Pool Saturday at 2 p.m. The Redbirds look to emulate the performance they gave in last weekend's triangular meet against Evansville and Iowa State.

Western Illinois canceled the 2009-10 season for the swimming and diving program in June, but was able to re-establish the program before the season's start in September.

Head coach Steve Paska looks forward to Saturday's meet.

"I'm very excited that WIU was able to continue their swimming and diving program this season," Paska said. "The meet between Western and the Redbirds is a great showing every year and it makes it an even better meet with how close in proximity the two schools are."

Coach Paska feels the depth of the Redbird's roster will provide for another exciting home meet.

"We are really going to be looking to maintain our consistency and focus throughout tomorrows meet," Paska added. "The team wants to have a strong finish as we near the end of our six-consecutive weeks of competition."

Diving coach Phil Hoffmann and the Redbird divers look to add to the consistency that the team has built this season.

"We're back on our boards this weekend, so the divers are going into this meet less pressured," Hoffmann said. "Our divers are going to be focusing on staying consistent with their lists and strengthening the basic elements of diving."

Senior diver Katelyn Prorok looks to compete for another Missouri Valley Conference Diver of the Week nomination in Saturday's dual-meet.

The Redbirds break the surface at 2 p.m. Coverage will be live on GoRedbirds.com.
