Coming off a fourth-place finish, the Redbirds are set to compete at the Johnie Imes Invitational Oct. 5-6 in Columbia, Mo., at the par-72, 6,204-yard Club at Old Hawthorne. The two-day tournament will begin with 36 holes on Monday and continue with the final 18 holes on Tuesday. An 8:30 a.m. shotgun with start the rounds on both days.
The `Birds have improved one place each tournament this season, beginning with a sixth-place finish at Chip-N-Club Invitational (Sept. 15), followed by a fifth-place finish at the Napa River Valley Cardinal Cup (Sept. 22) and a fourth-place finish at the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational (Sept. 29).
Hoping to continue this improvement, senior Stacey Miller, senior Marisa Milligan, senior Britt Knutson, senior Laura Harris and junior Terra Miller will lead the Redbirds to the Johnie Imes Invitational.
"We are very excited to be competing this week at Mizzou," said head coach Darby Sligh. "This is a very competitive field and we are hoping to once again capitalize on our upperclassmen experience."
The 17-team playing field, in addition to Illinois State, includes Missouri (Big 12), Bradley (Missouri Valley), Arkansas-Little Rock (Sun Belt), Florida International (Sun Belt), Indiana (Big 10), Iowa (Big 10), Kansas (Big 12), Kansas State (Big 12), Middle Tennessee State (Sun Belt), Missouri State (Missouri Valley), Ole Miss (SEC), Princeton (The Ivy League), Redlands CC (NJCA), Southern Illinois (Missouri Valley), Tulsa (Conference USA), UMKC (The Summit League) and Wisconsin (Big 10).
"This is a turning point in our season with only one event remaining at Iowa. It's time for everyone to pull out all the stops and go low," Sligh said.
