ISU Softball Concludes Fall with Family Day Sunday

Oct. 9, 2009

NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State softball team is set to conclude its fall season with its 25th annual Family and Friends Day Sunday at Marian Kneer Stadium at 1 p.m.

"This will be the 25th year of our family and friends day," said head coach Melinda Fischer. "We thought it would be fun to have the parents play the players and now it includes friends as well. Our players do not play their normal positions; they get to choose where they want to play. All of our pitchers usually want to catch, our catchers want to play shortstop and all our shortstops want to pitch. It is pretty interesting. We play for about an hour and just have a lot of fun. Then, we have a potluck dinner afterwards."

The Redbirds are undefeated this fall, going 7-0 including the alumni game.

ISU is coming off a 6-5 come-from-behind victory over Illinois in the State Farm Illinois Collegiate Softball Championship (Oct. 4) at Champion Fields. The Redbirds scored six runs in the last inning to win, including Abby Olson's game-winning homerun.
