Head coach Cris James and the Illinois State men's tennis team closed the fall season on Sunday at the Western Michigan Vredevelt. Matej Zlatkovic and Alexander Pelaez were able to come away with wins as the team posted a 2-4 record on the day.

"Overall we did a few things better Sunday," James said. "Everyone fought harder and it showed in our matches."

Zlatkovic downed UIC's Sebastian Lystad, 6-3, 6-1, to claim seventh place in the `Brown' Flight. Pelaez defeated Pablo Olivarez of Western Michigan, 6-3, 7-5, to capture third place in the `Brown' Flight.

"Matej played his best match of the weekend," James said. "Alex made a lot of progress at this tournament and he played a good match on Sunday."

The men's tennis team finishes the fall season with a 46-39 record. They will resume play Jan. 22 at the Missouri Valley Conference Individual Championships in Des Moines, Iowa. The Redbirds' first home matches will be Jan. 30 against UIC and Western Illinois at the Evergreen Racquet Club.
