Illinois State scored the game's first nine points but struggled from the field early. The Redbirds finished the first half with a 31.8 percent shooting percentage, despite making just three of their first 16 field goal attempts. Truman State was able to hang with the Redbirds for much of the first half and trailed by six points with four and a half minutes to go after a jump shot by Breanna Daniels made it 20-14. The Redbirds closed the half on a 12-0 run, however, and never looked back.
The Redbirds attacked the paint to begin the second half, scoring 18 of their first 24 points in the lane. Illinois State's field goal percentage also benefitted from the close range shots as the Redbirds hit 13-of-21 from the field in the first 12 minutes of the second period. Illinois State led by as many as 29 in the second half before closing with the 26 point margin.
Laura Joya led all scorers with 15 points for Truman State. She was the only Bulldog to score in double figures. Amy Galey scored five points and dished out five assists. The Bulldogs turned the ball over 21 times, leading to 28 Illinois State points.
