All-MVC Volleyball Release
ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Illinois State junior Mallory Leggett and freshman Angela Rego each received All-Valley honors, as announced by the league office Thursday. Leggett was a first-team All-Valley selection and Rego was named to the Valley All-Freshman Team.
Leggett started all 29 matches for the Redbirds this season, leading the team in kills (369), kills per set (3.55), service aces (46) and points (440.5). She was also second in digs (301). Leggett led the Redbirds in kills in 21 matches and recorded double-digit kills 20 times. She ranked second in the Valley in kills per set, first in aces per set (0.44) and 16th in digs per set (2.89). In Valley play, she also ranked second in kills per set (3.68), first in aces per set (0.41) and 17th in digs per set (3.05).
Leggett started the season with six-straight double-digit kills matches. She was named to the all-tournament team of the Redbird Classic, the Holiday Inn Bronco Invitational and the State Farm Illini Classic. Leggett was the Valley Player of the Week Nov. 16 after recording a double-double of 18 kills and 20 digs against Indiana State. She had back-to-back 20-kill matches with 21 at Drake and a season-high 22 against Evansville.
Rego appeared in 25 matches in her freshman season, ranking third in kills (225), second in kills per set (2.53) and fifth in blocks (34). Rego was 18th in the Valley in kills per set and 23rd in points per set (2.76). Rego had 158 kills and 21 blocks in Valley play, ranking eighth in the conference in kills per set (3.04) in conference matches, the best mark of any freshman.
Rego had 13 matches with double-digit kills, including the last five-consecutive matches of the season. She had four matches with double-digit kills and fewer than two attack errors, including 11 kills and zero errors against Wake Forest. Rego had a career-high 19 kills at Evansville.
Rego is the first Redbird named to the All-Freshman team since Leggett achieved the honor in 2007.
