ST. LOUIS -
Senior Scott Krapf has been selected the Prairie Farms/Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week, as announced by the Missouri Valley Conference Wednesday. Krapf was honored for his performances during the period of October 26-November 1.
Krapf earned the individual title at the 2009 State Farm MVC Men's Cross Country Championship on the Newman Golf Course in Peoria, Ill. The Danville, Ill., native covered the muddy 8K course in a time of 25:47, edging Southern Illinois' Jeff Schirmer, who had won the previous two MVC cross country individual crowns.
Krapf graduated with a 4.0 cumulative grade-point average (GPA) in recreation and park administration and is currently pursuing a graduate degree in sport management at Illinois State.
"The fact that Scott was able to maintain a 4.0 GPA and graduate in three years, while running at the level he has been running is really impressive," said head cross country coach Jeff Bovee.
To qualify for the Prairie Farms/Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week laurels, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing. Redshirt freshmen and first-year junior college transfers are not eligible. In addition to the academic qualifications, student-athletes will be evaluated on their athletic performance for a one-week period.
In its 11th year of existence, The Valley's Scholar-Athlete program is sponsored by Prairie Farms, Roberts and Hiland Dairies. The MVC honors its student-athletes for their athletic performance for a one-week period and academic success in the classroom.
