ISU Uses Second Half Spark to Defeat NIU, 85-57

NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State outscored Northern Illinois 44-22 in the second half to come out on top 85-57 Friday night at Redbird Arena. Maggie Krick led all scorers with 24 points and added eight rebounds, and Ashleen Bracey chipped in with 18 points and nine rebounds.

Krick shot 10-of-20 from the field including 2-of-4 from behind the arc while Bracey was 7-for-12 from the field and also shot 2-for-4 from three-point range. Hannah Spanich added 10 points and Emily Hanley had seven points and seven rebounds for the Redbirds (3-2). Illinois State shot 45.5 percent (31-of-68) from the field and held a 32-20 advantage in the paint. Illinois State out-rebounded the Huskies 50-31 and scored 24 second-chance points.

Amanda Clifton scored the first four points of the game, but the Huskies (3-5) rallied to lead 23-15 at the 10:01 mark after a jumper by Tenisha Wilson. The Redbirds used a 9-0 run to erase the largest lead of the half, and led 24-23 after a jumper by Maggie Krick - two of her first-half leading 12 points. Both teams battled back and forth as the game saw eight lead changes and six ties, but an 11-3 run to close out the half gave ISU a 41-35 advantage heading into the locker room. Mauvolyene Adams scored six of the first eight points for NIU but only managed four more points before the break.

ISU used a 20-5 run to begin the second half, 15 of which were scored by Krick and Bracey. Bracey, who scored eight in a row at one point, tallied 10 points in the second half. Illinois State led by as many as 28 with 6:21 left in the in the second half and closed the game with the same margin after Megan Grace's first career bucket.

Marke Freeman led the way for the Huskies with 12 points and was joined in double figures by Adams (11), Ebony Ellis (11) and Wilson (10). Adams was the Huskies leading rebounder with eight rebounds and was held without a double-double for just the third time in eight games.

The Redbirds will have a nine-day break before hitting the road for a four-game road trip beginning at Ball State Dec. 13. Tip-off is set for 12 p.m.
