Windy Conditions Blow `Birds Back Two Spots

MIAMI - After the second day of competition in the Qdoba Invitational at the Don Shula Golf Resort, the Illinois State women's golf team tallied a two-round total of 622 (304-318) Monday. The Redbirds dropped two spots from Sunday falling to 10th place on the par-72 course.

"We had a tough day today," said head coach Darby Sligh. "We really struggled on the greens. It was very windy today, and the entire field had mishaps. We just couldn't catch a break. I wish we could have posted a better score, but we will find a way to make something happen tomorrow."

Four Illinois State golfers are currently sitting in the top-50 individually after two-rounds. Junior Marisa Milligan led the Redbirds with a 10-over-par two-round score 154 (73-81). Milligan is currently tied for 25th place, while senior Marci Hill fired a 36-hole total 155 (77-78) to finish the day in a tie for 28th.

Junior Stacey Miller carded a 12-over-par in two rounds for a 156 (78-78) and is currently in a tie for 37th place. Junior Laura Harris shot a two-round score of 158 (76-82) and is sitting in a tie for 44th, while senior Tiffany Hockensmith is in a tie for 57th place with a score of 161 (80-81).

Illinois State is currently leading South Florida (625), UNC-Greensboro (635), Memphis (649) and Mercer (670). Georgia State continues to lead the field with a team score of 590 (291-299). Louisville moved into second place with a team total of 595 (299-296), while North Carolina State moved to third place with a team score of 598 (294-304).

The final round of competition will be tomorrow with a shot gun start beginning at 7 a.m. CST.
