ST. LOUIS -
After leading the Illinois State women's golf team to a 10th place finish at the Qdoba Invitational, senior Marci Hill was named the Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week, as announced by the league office Wednesday afternoon. Hill finished the tournament with a 17-over-par 233 (77-78-78) in a six-way tie for 31st place. The honor marked the first MVC Golfer of the Week award for Hill in her four-year career.
"I am very proud of the way Marci fought this weekend," said head coach Darby Sligh. "Not once did she give up, despite adversity, and her consistency showed that. She is very close to breaking through and becoming a constant force on this team, and I'm glad she's getting some recognition from her hard work."
On Sunday, Hill carded a 5-over-par first-round score of 77 and finished the day in a tie for 30th place. On Monday, the second day of the tournament, the Madison, Wis., native tallied a 36-hole total of 155 (77-78) and moved up two positions to the 28th spot. Hill fired a final-round score of 78 Tuesday.
Hill was joined by junior teammate Marisa Milligan with a final score of 233, while juniors Stacey Miller and Laura Harris, along with senior Tiffany Hockensmith, all finished the tournament in a tie for 43rd place. The Redbirds finished the tournament in 10th place with a team total of 934 (304-318-312).
The Redbirds will be back in action Sunday at the Kiawah Island Classic. The three-day event will be held at Kiawah Island, S.C.
