Junior Landon Shipley had a season high 15 points, including three three-pointers, to lead Illinois State to a 74-59 win over Wichita State Wednesday on Doug Collins Court at Redbird Arena.
Illinois State's (22-5, MVC 10-5) Champ Oguchi (16), Shipley (15) and Osiris Eldridge (14) all scored in double-figures, while Shipley shot 3-of-3 from behind the three-point line. Dimna Odiakosa had a game-high eight rebounds
Clevin Hannah had a game-high 21 points for Wichita State (13-14, MVC 7-9), while Ramon Clemente chimed in with 16.
The first half featured several runs for both teams, as Wichita State tallied the first eight points of the game before Illinois State rattled off the next seven of its own. The Redbirds claimed their first lead, 14-13, at the 10:04 mark as Champ Oguchi knocked down a 16-foot jump shot. The lead was short-lived, however, as Hannah scored five-consecutive points to put the Shockers back in front, 18-14.
Illinois State had its largest lead of the half, 27-19, after going on a 13-1 run, while holding the Shockers without a field goal for 6:24. Illinois State entered halftime with a 32-29 lead after Wichita State closed the half with a 10-3 run.
The second half was highly-contested, with neither squad able to take control early. Wichita State claimed its first lead since the 7:50 mark in the first half, 39-38, after Clemente hit a jumper in the first four minutes. The teams traded baskets before Illinois State was able to take control of the game with a12-3 run to pull ahead, 66-54, with 3:39 remaining. Shipley went 6-of-6 from the line to help secure the win for Illinois State.
