CHICAGO, Ill. -
The doubles tandem of junior Michael Hobson and sophomore Timon Reichelt grabbed the Redbirds' sole victory on Saturday, as the Illinois State's men's tennis team was unable to down No. 75 DePaul. The Redbirds fell to the Blue Demons, 7-0, at the Lakeshore Athletic Center in Chicago. Illinois State's record falls to 2-5.
Despite the loss, Redbird head coach Cris James feels that the team played competitively against DePaul and is getting back on track.
"I was proud of how the guys competed," James said. "We fought hard and were much improved from our last match. There are always little things that need improvement, but I feel this match has helped us get back on the right path and ready for upcoming competition."
In doubles, the duo of Hobson and Reichelt beat Alasdair Graetz and Bartosz Jozwiak, 8-6, at the No. 2 doubles spot, earning the Redbirds' only win of the match. Freshman Skip Span and sophomore Filip Miljevic fell, 8-4, at the No. 1 position against the No. 41 team of Ben Hartman and Austin Doerner.
In singles action, Span fell to Ben Hartman at the No. 3 spot in a super-tiebreaker, 6-7, 6-3,(11-9), while Matija Palinic defeated Hobson in three sets, 6-7, 6-2, 7-6, at the No. 5 position.
