Redbirds Move up the Leaderboard to 17th Place

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. - Senior Tiffany Hockensmith fired a 2-over-par second-round score of 74 to led the Illinois State women's golf team to two-round score 625 (320-305) Monday. The Redbirds regained momentum during the second day of the Kiawah Island Classic and carded a second-round team score of 305. Illinois State is currently in 17th place after competing at the Oak Point Golf Course.

Head women's golf coach Darby Sligh was proud of how every Redbird improved their score from Sunday's first round.

"I am incredibly proud of the way we bounced back today," said Sligh. "Everyone did a great job of breaking down the golf course into more manageable pieces, especially Tiffany (Hockensmith) and Marisa (Milligan). We have put ourselves into a great position to finish this event on a high note."

Hockensmith is currently in a 12-way-tie for 51st place, along with junior Marisa Milligan, who tallied a 4-over-par second-round score of 76. Junior Laura Harris carded a 77 during the second round of the tournament and is currently in a four-way-tie for 63rd place with a total score of 156 (79-77). Senior Marci Hill has a 36-hole score of 159 (81-78), while junior Stacey Miller shot an 80 and holds a two-round score of 167 (87-80).

Illinois State continues to lead Missouri Valley Conference foes Missouri State (652), Bradley (663) and Southern Illinois (667). Miami is leading the tournament with a team score of 605 (300-305), while East Tennessee State is in second with a 606 (300-306). Central Arkansas moved into the third spot with a 610 (310-300).

Elisa Aoki (Central Florida), Mary Kate Bird (Nebraska) and Jessica Yadloczky (Florida) are all in a three-way-tie for first place with a two-round total of 146 on the par-72.

The `Birds will compete in the final day of competition at the Cougar Point Golf Course Tuesday with a shot gun start at 8:15 a.m. CST.
