Prorok Named MVC Diver of the Week for Fifth Time This Season

Feb. 4, 2009

NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State diver, junior captain Katelyn Prorok was named Missouri Valley Conference Diver of the Week for the fifth time this season after strong performances this past weekend in a double dual-meet against Green Bay and Youngstown State. Prorok was honored as the MVC Diver of the Week after having won the award for four-consecutive weeks (Oct. 8-29) earlier this season.

Prorok's performances on the diving board helped lead the Illinois State Redbirds to a victory over Youngstown State (208-91), and a narrow loss to Green Bay (178-120) this past weekend (Jan. 31). Prorok earned a second-place finish and personal-best score of 269.05 on the one-meter board, a score that again qualified Prorok for the NCAA Zone C Diving Regionals. Prorok went on to earn a second-place score of 264.35 on the three-meter board for the Redbirds.

Prorok currently holds the Valley's second-place score on the one-meter board (269.05), and the third-place score on the three-meter board (266.10).

Head diving coach Phil Hoffmann feels this is a great honor for Prorok as the Redbirds head into the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Championships.

"She had a very consistent meet this past weekend," said Hoffmann. "There is always room to grow and improve, but this will be a great boost of confidence for her as we head into the conference championships."

The Illinois State swimming and diving team will travel to Carbondale, Ill. to compete in the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Championship Feb 12-14.
