Feb. 5, 2009

NORMAL, Ill. - For the second-consecutive year, Illinois State women's basketball players Kristi Cirone and Maggie Krick have received CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District V recognition. Cirone was a first-team selection and Krick was a second-team honoree, moving each player up a level form a year ago.

Cirone has started all 21 games this season and leads the Redbirds in scoring (19.0 ppg), three-point field goal percentage (.454) assists (131) and steals (53). A four-time Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week and five-time Prairie Farms/MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Week, Cirone became Illinois State's all-time leader in assists and three-pointers this season and moved into second place in career scoring. She has been named a candidate for the State Farm Wade Trophy and the John R. Wooden Award, which are given to the nation's best Division I player. Cirone has a 3.50 cumulative grade-point average (GPA) in exercise science and has been on the AFNI Honor Roll every semester.

Krick has appeared in 20 games so far this year, staring 19 of them. She is ISU's second leading scorer (11.5 ppg) and also ranks second in three-point field goals (28) and assists (54). A preseason All-Valley selection, Krick scored in double-figures in nine of the first 11 games of the season, including a season-high 24 against nationally-ranked DePaul. A fractured hand forced her to miss the first game of her career against Indiana State, but she has since rebounded to average 9.3 ppg since her return. Krick has a 3.84 cumulative GPA In business teacher education and has been on the AFNI Honor Roll every semester.

There are eight districts recognized by the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District program. To be eligible, a student-athlete must have a 3.3 cumulative GPA, be at least a sophomore in academic standing and be a starter or a key contributor to her team. All first-team members are eligible for the CoSIDA Academic All-America team, which will be voted on next week.
