Final Stats

La Crosse, Wis. - The Illinois State gymnastics team added another win to its overall record (5-6) Friday night, with wins over University of Wisconsin La Crosse and Winona State. The Redbirds finished the meet with a 189.200, while UW-La Crosse finished in second with a 183.325 and Winona State falling in third place with a 180.750.

Head Coach Bob Conkling thought the team did a great job despite tight scoring by the judges.

"I think the student-athletes did a great job in tonight's meet," said Conkling. `"We started off on beam and made a few mistakes. We had to count a fall which hurt us, but the girls managed to pull it together. We picked up momentum on the floor exercise and carried that momentum into vault and bars. Everybody in the line-up hit their vault and bar routine. I was very pleased with the meet overall. I thought Hannah Meyer did a great job on vault for her début, Emily Matko also had a great vault and Melissa Mann did a fantastic job despite a high ankle sprain."

Illinois State struggled on their first event of the night the balance beam. Sophomore Hannah Deutsch placed first in the event with a 9.775. Freshman Melissa Mann wasn't far behind Deutsch with her second place score of 9.650. The Redbirds team total on the beam was 47.350.

The Redbirds picked up momentum going into their floor routines placing three gymnasts in the top-four. Junior Jessica Prousa won the event with a 9.700, while sophomore Erica Schick came in second with a 9.625. Deutsch tallied another top-four finish with a 9.550.

ISU finished the next event with a 47.150, its lowest vault score of the season. This didn't stop the Redbirds though they still managed to capture first and second place wins. Senior Meaghan Koshman won the event with a 9.600 and Deutsch came in second with a 9.500.

The Illinois State gymnasts swept the uneven bars. Schick took first place with a score 9.625. Senior Mary Hankosky took second with a 9.500. Rounding out the top-six were Prousa, junior Andrea Orris, and sophomores Stacie Morris and Emily Matko. The team tallied a 47.350 on the bars.

Schick won the all-around for the Redbirds with a final score of 38.050.

The Redbirds will travel to Cape Girardeau, Mo., Feb. 13 to compete against Southeast Missouri State for the second time this season. The meet is set to being at 7 p.m. and will be a conference meet for the `Birds.
