ST. CHARLES, Mo. (AP) - Ashley Austin scored 22 points and Shannon Novosel had 13 as ninth-seeded Evansville upset top-seeded Illinois State 73-60 on Friday in the quarterfinals of the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament in suburban St. Louis.
Evansville (13-18) went ahead 13-11 midway through the first half and never trailed after that. The Aces led 31-27 at the half.
Evansville made 14 of its final 20 free throw attempts to keep Illinois State (24-7) from getting back into the game.
Ashleen Bracey led Illinois State with 22 points and Kristi Cirone, who was named player of the year for the third consecutive year on Thursday, finished with 16 points. The victory was the first in three tries this season for Evansville against Illinois State.
