The Illinois State gymnastics team struggled to maintain consistency throughout the State of Illinois Classic Saturday. The Redbirds finished fourth with a total team score of 193.375, while Illinois-Champaign took first place with a 196.450 followed by Northern Illinois with a 194.925, and third place went to Illinois-Chicago for their 194.800.
Senior Meaghan Koshman was the only Redbird to place in the top-three on the vault routine with her 9.800. Sophomore Robin Weissman marked a 9.700, which placed her in a tie for eleventh place with Illinois-Chicago's Sarah Murray. Illinois-Chicago's DeAvera Todd won the event with a 9.850. As a team, the Redbirds finished with a score of 48.250 on the event.
On the uneven bars, senior Mary Hankosky and sophomore Erica Schick tied for eighth place along with Northern Illinois's Leah Johnson with their 9.800. Weissman once again rounded out the top-15 with her four-way tie for eleventh place (9.750). Illinois-Champaign's Sarah Schmidt placed first on the uneven bars with a 9.900. Illinois State finished with a team score of 48.750, their second highest team score of the evening.
The Redbirds struggled on the balance beam with their lowest team score of the night, 47.475. Sophomore Hannah Deutsch led the `Birds with her 9.875, marking a season-high. UIC finished once again in the top position with Zandre Labuschagne's 9.925.
On the floor routine, Illinois State picked up its highest team total of the night a 48.800. Koshman tied for fourth with a 9.850, while Deutsch and Schick captured thirteenth and fourteenth place with a 9.800 and a 9.775, respectively. Illinois-Champaign's Sarah Schmidt won the event with a 9.925.
Illinois State will host the Midwest Independent Conference Championships Saturday, March, 21 at Horton Field house. The five-team meet is set to begin at 4 p.m.
