Want to know what your favorite Illinois State student-athletes are really thinking, both on-and-off the court? How about what is their favorite thing to do in their spare time, or who is their funniest teammate or what is on their mind as they go through a practice or game? Well, look no further, as GoRedbirds.com and Redbird All-Access have you covered with a new video feature series that will give Redbird student-athletes a chance to talk and speak their minds on a weekly basis.
Up this week is junior baseball player Ryan Copeland, who is a rising star for the baseball Redbirds.
Preseason All-Missouri Valley Conference selection and returning staff ace Ryan Copeland was expected to do well this season, but the left-handed junior’s results have been staggering through four starts. Copeland has posted 1.24 ERA in 29 innings and is limiting opposing hitters to just a .168 batting average. The Redbirds have won in three of Copeland’s four starts, and dropped a 1-0 decision to Murray State in his only loss.
Copeland helped the Redbirds get back on track after a rough start to the Metrodome Tournament and shutdown South Dakota State in a 2-1 win over the Jackrabbits. Copeland struck out eight and scattered four hits over nine innings while logging his third complete game of the season in as many starts. Copeland struck out eight South Dakota State batters.
Copeland pitched the Redbirds to a win over Notre Dame during the team’s undefeated romp through the Irish Baseball Classic in San Antonio last week and will lead the Redbirds into conference play against Evansville this weekend in Normal, Ill.
