ATLANTA - For the second-consecutive year, Illinois State senior guard Kristi Cirone has been named a finalist for the State Farm Coaches' All-America Basketball Team. The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), in cooperation with State Farm, announced the 40 finalists Thursday.
Cirone was among the 52 regional finalists that were announced March 16. The WBCA coaches voted on the regional finalists to narrow down the list and the 40 finalists are in contention for the 10-member All-American team.
Cirone became the third Redbird to earn All-American honors when she was an honorable mention pick by the WBCA and Associated Press last season. She won her third-consecutive Jackie Stiles/MVC Player of the Year award this season and was a candidate for the State Farm Wade Trophy, John R. Wooden Award and Nancy Lieberman Award.
The 2009State Farm Coaches' All-America Basketball Team for NCAA Division I will be announced at the State Farm Coaches' All-America Team Press Conference during the Final Four at the Renaissance Grand and Suites Hotel on April 4, at 9:45 a.m. in St. Louis, Mo.
Cirone will lead the Redbirds against Marquette in the third round of the WNIT Thursday at 7:05 p.m. at Redbird Arena.
