Illinois State Baseball Washed out Tuesday

March 31, 2009

NORMAL, Ill. - For the sixth time this season and third time in the last four days, Illinois State was forced to cancel its baseball game due to inclement weather, the Redbirds' coaching staff announced Tuesday afternoon. Illinois State was attempting to match-up against Illinois at Duffy Bass Field but early morning showers and continued rain throughout the afternoon made the field unplayable.

Illinois State (11-7, 3-1 MVC) has not played a game since last Friday, when the Redbirds defeated Indiana State. Saturday's game against the Sycamores was moved to Sunday because of rain but snow in the area forced the teams to scrap the last two games of the series. Illinois State was unable to finish its season-opening series at Belmont because of cold temperatures and was washed out in the final two games at Murray State.

Both teams will work to reschedule the in-state series, but no make-up date was immediately available. Meanwhile, the Redbirds will attempt to defy Mother Nature and welcome the University of Iowa to Normal, Ill., Wednesday at 6 p.m. Illinois State's Corey Maines is scheduled to start against Iowa's Zach Robertson.
