Samford Intercollegiate Next Stop for Redbirds

The Illinois State men's golf team will compete in the Samford Intercollegiate at the Limestone Springs Golf Course Monday and Tuesday in Oneonta, Ala. The 54-hole event will feature 13 teams and has 36 holes slated Monday and18 holes scheduled for Tuesday.

The Redbirds competed against No. 7 Illinois in the Tinervin Cup Feb. 28, in a match-play format, and lost, 8-1. Reigning Missouri Valley Golfer of the Week, Kyle Bragg captured Illinois State's only point, while sophomore Will Cullen was low for the Redbirds firing a 73.

"After coming off of a tough weekend against Illinois, we are heading into this week focusing on the simple things," said head coach Ray Kralis. "We will have to stay focused and in the moment. We are playing on a great golf course that I know the guys are excited about."

Teams participating in the event are Belmont, Birmingham-Southern, Clayton State, Dayton, Eastern Illinois, Eastern Kentucky, Kennesaw State, Murray State, Samford and UT Martin along with Missouri Valley foes Evansville and Southern Illinois.

The Redbird lineup will consist of Bragg, Cullen, Tommy Bliefnick, Joe Emerich, Jeff Kellen and Ben Murphy with play scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m., with a shotgun start.
