Eldridge, Oguchi Honored by NABC

KANSAS CITY - Illinois State's Osiris Eldridge and Champ Oguchi were each named to The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division I District 16 Team Wednesday. Eldridge received first-team honors, while Oguchi was a second-team honoree.

The all-district selections were chosen and voted on by member coaches of the NABC. In all, 240 student-athletes, from 24 districts which were realigned this season, were honored and each, including Eldridge and Oguchi, are now eligible for the State Farm Coaches' Division I All-America teams to be announced Saturday, April 4, at Hoop City in the COBO Center at 10 a.m. as part of the 2009 NABC Convention in Detroit.

Eldridge was joined on the District 16's first team with Booker Woodfox (Creighton), Shy Ely (Evansville), Adam Koch (Northern Iowa) and Theron Wilson (Bradley).

Eldridge ranked second on the Illinois State team in scoring with 13.5 points per game. He was also second in rebounding with 6.1 boards per contest, while leading the team in steals with 47. Eldridge also ranked No. 3 on the team with 73 assists.

Oguchi led the Redbirds in scoring during the regular-season with 14.8 points per contest and he ranked third on the squad with 5.8 rebounds per game. The Oregon transfer led Illinois State with 75 three-pointers, while shooting 37.7 percent from beyond the arch on the season.

Illinois State begins its run for the 2009 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Tournament title Friday night, when the No. 3-seeded Redbirds face the No. 6-seeded Evansville Purple Aces at 8:30 p.m., in the Scottrade Center in St. Louis.
