After the second day of play at the Duramed Collegiate Invitational, junior Stacey Miller led the Illinois State women's golf team to a second-round team score of 615 (311-304) Saturday. Miller fired a 1-over-par 72 and is sitting in three-way tie for fifth place. The Bloomington, Ill., native carded a 36-hole score of 148 (76-72). The Redbirds are currently in two-way tie for eighth place on the par-71 Quail Run Golf Course.
"I am very proud of the way Stacey (Miller) played today," said head coach Darby Sligh. "She really made the most of every situation she put herself in today. As for the final round, we are looking to making a big move tomorrow."
Junior Marisa Milligan fired a second-round score 3-over par 74 and is in a seven-way tie for 20th place. Milligan tallied a two-round score of 152 (78-74). Junior Laura Harris and senior Tiffany Hockensmith ended the second round of play with an 8-over par 79. Harris is in seven-way tie for 51st place with a 158 (79-79), while Hockensmith tallied a 161 (82-79). Senior Marci Hill carded a 36-hole score of 159 (78-81) and is in a six-way tie for 58th place.
After 36-holes, Kansas is still at the top of the leaderboard with a team score of 589 (294-295). Toledo fired a two-round team score of 609 (304-305) and are currently in second place, while Minnesota (312-298) and Arkansas-Little Rock (312-298) are in third place with a 610. Illinois State currently leads Valley foes Missouri State (619), Southern Illinois (628) and Bradley (630).
Meghan Gockel (Kansas) is in first place with a two-round score of 145 (73-72). Boram Lee (Toledo), Carly Werwie (Wisconsin) and Sara Wikstrom (Arkansas-Little Rock) are in a three-way tie for second place with a 147.
The `Birds will compete in the final day of the tournament Sunday. The invitational is set to begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. CST.
