NORMAL, Ill. - Overnight showers and steady rain through the morning and afternoon postponed the opening of Illinois State's Missouri Valley Conference series with Missouri State at Duffy Bass Field until Saturday, the Redbird coaching staff announced Friday afternoon.
The Redbirds and Bears were scheduled to begin the three-game series at 6 p.m. Friday but moved the contest to Saturday as part of a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. The teams will play two nine-inning games and conclude the series with the regularly scheduled 1 p.m. series finale Sunday.
Illinois State's Ryan Camp is still expected to throw against Missouri State's Tim Clubb in Saturday's opening game with Ryan Copeland (ISU) and Buddy Baumann (MSU) slated to match-up in the second game of the doubleheader. Corey Maines is scheduled to start Sunday's finale for the Redbirds against Aaron Meade.
This marks the 11th time the Redbirds have had to cancel or adjust their schedule due to poor weather conditions. Seven of Illinois State's games have been cancelled this season, including two conference games. The Redbirds had a mid-week contest with Northern Illinois cancelled last Tuesday, and cancelled a contest the week before with Illinois, part of a three-game stretch, along with the last two of the Indiana State series, washed out by rain. Illinois State was unable to finish its season-opening series at Belmont because of cold temperatures and was washed out in the final two games at Murray State.
