Redbirds in First; Milligan Tied for Second

PANORA, Iowa - Junior Marisa Milligan led the Illinois State women's golf team to a first-round team score of 301, while finishing the day in first place at the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Championships on the par-72 Lake Panorama Golf Course Friday. Milligan fired a 1-over-par 73 and is currently in second place after the opening round.

"This first round was a pretty solid effort from everyone," said head coach Darby Sligh. "Marisa (Milligan) really stepped up for us today. I'm very proud of the way we stuck together and concentrated on staying in the present moment. We are excited to be in this position heading into the second round."

Junior Stacey Miller finished the day in a three-way tie for fourth place with a 74, while senior Marci Hill tallied 4-over-par 76 and is currently in a four-way tie for 13th place. Junior Laura Harris shot a 6-over-par 78 and is sitting in a seven-way tie for 20th place, senior Tiffany Hockensmith is in a four-way tie for 36th place with an 81.

With Illinois State leading the field, Wichita State is currently in second place with a team score of 304. Northern Iowa has an 18 hole team score of 306 and is sitting in third place.

At the top of the leaderboard, is Kelly Amundrud (Bradley) with an even par 72, while Blair Bonner (Northern Iowa) and Milligan are tied for second place. Kayley Bodine (Indiana State), Breanne Neufeld (Bradley) and Miller are in a three-way tie for fourth place after posting a 2-over-par 74.

The Redbirds will continue play Saturday with assigned tee times. Saturday's round will consist of 18 holes.
