WATERLOO, Iowa - Illinois State and Northern Iowa will play a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. Saturday in an attempt to avoid rainy conditions Sunday, the coaching staffs announced Friday. The Redbirds and Panthers will play two nine-inning games on Saturday instead of playing one game each on Saturday and Sunday as previously scheduled.
Illinois State and Northern Iowa were set to open the three-game, Missouri Valley Conference series at Riverfront Staidum Friday night at 6 p.m. The schedule adjustment should not alter the probable pitching rotations for the weekend. ISU's Ryan Copeland will start in the second game of the series against UNI's Derek Ott, and Corey Maines will start the series finale for the Redbirds against Carlos Pinedo.
