Junior Stacey Miller fired a 1-under-par 71 and led the Illinois State women's golf team to a second-round team score of 596 (301-295) Saturday at the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Championships. After the second day of play, the Redbirds remain at the top spot on the par-72 Panorama National Resort. Miller has a 36-hole score of 145 (74-71) and is sitting in second place.
"I could not be more proud of the way we played today," said head coach Darby Sligh. "We really stayed patient throughout the entire round, which was the key (Saturday) during rain showers. Once again, Stacey stepped up and led the way for us. With three other key performances, we are in a good position heading into tomorrow's final round."
Senior Tiffany Hockensmith carded a 2-over-par 74 and is in a three-way tie for 22nd place with a two-round score of 155 (81-74). Juniors Marisa Milligan and Laura Harris each tallied a 3-over-par 75 during the second round of play. Milligan is in third place with a 4-over-par 36-hole score of 148 (73-75), while Harris is in a six-way tie for 12th place with a score of 153 (78-75). Rounding out the top-five for the Redbirds is senior Marci Hill, who is in 29th place with a 158 (76-82).
Illinois State is in first place, while Drake sits in second place with a team score of 604 (308-296), eight strokes back. In third place, is Wichita State with a 36-hole score of 609 (304-305).
Olivia Lansing (Drake) is at the top of the leaderboard with a 144 (75-69), leading Miller by one stroke.
The Redbirds will compete in the final round of play Sunday with scheduled tee times. Illinois State will tee off at 8:45 a.m.
