BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois State's men's tennis team concluded its regular-season Sunday with a, 5-2, victory over Indiana State at the Evergreen Racquet Club in Bloomington, Ill. The Redbirds won four-out-of-six singles matches and the doubles point. The `Birds ended the season with an overall 8-11 record, and improved to 3-3 in the Valley. The match was moved to the indoor facility due to poor weather conditions.

Redbird head coach Cris James was pleased the team finished the season strong, as it begins to look ahead to the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Tournament.

"It was great to start out with a win in doubles," said James. "We did some things well, especially at the No. 3 position. Daniel and Skip were disappointed to give up their match at No. 1 doubles. The team they played against was tough and served well.

"I'm happy we finished the home-season strong, we played well overall in singles. There were some individual issues that we'll try to fix before heading to the Valley tournament next weekend. We'll be focusing on staying sharp and physically ready for the upcoming competition."

In singles, Filip Miljevic topped Mpiloenhle Migogo, 6-1, 6-1, at the No. 2 position, securing the win for the Redbirds. Skip Span beat Jon Sigurdsson in No. 3 singles, 6-4, 6-3, while Micah LeMoine nearly shutout Chris Finney, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 6. Xavier Riart-Ferrer was ahead 6-2, 2-0, in the second set, when Michael Wenham retired in No. 5 singles.

At No.2 doubles, Michael Hobson and Timon Reichelt picked up the doubles point for Illinois State after defeating Wenham and Migogo, 8-2. The tandem of Miljevic and Riart-Ferrer outplayed Milos Pavloic and Finney, 8-2, at the No. 3 position, as Indiana State's Josh Smith and Sigurdsson defeated Daniel Tobar and Span, 8-7, in No. 1 doubles.

The Redbirds return to the court April 24-26 for the State Farm MVC Tournament in Omaha, Neb. Illinois State had conference wins over Indiana State (5-2), Creighton (7-0) and Bradley (7-0).
