Q & A With Auction Experience Winners

April 20, 2009

-

GoRedbirds.com online auction offered its first experience package last weekend, as part of the Red-White Spring Football Scrimmage. The two experience packages included two sideline passes during the game, hotel accommodations at the Double Tree, a $50 gift certificate for the Alamo II and two meals prior to the game.

GoRedbirds.com interviewed the auction winners, Jim White of Bloomington, Ill., and Jim Cary of Cincinnati, Ohio, to get their perspective of the experience and game.

GoRedbirds: How was your experience?

Jim White: It was a wonderful, wonderful day.

GR: Was it worth the $150 you spent on the auction?

JW: Certainly. It was good to be down on the field on such a nice day and see the new offense and how things are coming along.

GR: It is our understanding that your son is on the team, were you on the correct sideline?

JW: My son is Cody White, No. 5, he plays tight end. I was on the same side he was so I got to cheer on the white team today.

GR: What was your favorite part of the experience?

JW: Just being out here. There was a little bit of tailgating going on before the game and that was wonderful. We got to see some old friends from last season and to see how the players have come along in the last month.

GR: Jim Carey tell us about your experience?

Jim Carey: It was excellent. We got here at about 10 a.m., and got to meet a lot of the coaches one-on-one. We hadn't gotten to meet the coaching staff until today and they seem like great guys. I know that this team is in very good hands. We got a chance to see a lot of the players. We have gotten to know them quite a bit over the last year so watching them on the field was a lot of fun. There was a lot of intensity on the sidelines during the game. These players really love the game and I think it is going to be a very good season.

GR: Your son is on the team, were you on the correct sideline?

JC: My son, Pete Cary, is on the team, he is the center and I was definitely on his side. It's interesting to watch him play center because he played left tackle in high school. But he played well, he didn't have any bad snaps and I think that both teams played very well today.

GR: What has been your favorite aspect of the experience?

JC: I think that the whole day was excellent. Being on the sidelines and seeing the kids, and being able to slap a couple of high fives as they made good plays. Particularly No. 29 (Reggie Dozier) who had the catch at the very end to get the Red team their final touchdown and make the score close was nice. Then, my son slapped me five when he came off the field at the end of the game. It was quite touching.

GR: Would you recommend this experience to other people?

JC: Absolutely!
