NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State men's golf team added to an already potent lineup Thursday after head coach Ray Kralis signed Ryan Murphy from the High School of St. Thomas More to join the squad for the 2009-10 season.
"Ryan is a complete student-athlete and a great addition to the program," said Kralis. "He has had a tremendous amount of tournament success, and has a great deal of tournament experience on the regional and national level. I believe competition makes you stronger, and Ryan brings a lot of game to an already strong group."
The Champaign, Ill., native finished first in the 2008 Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Class A Regional Championship (74) along with the 2008 Sangamon Valley Conference Tournament (70). At the 2008 IHSA Class A Sectional Championship Murphy finished third carding a 74, and finished the 2008 IHSA Class A State Championship in third place after tallying a 69-77--146.
In the 2008 Pepsi Little Peoples Golf Championship, he finished in fifth place (74-74--148), while taking third-place honors in the Chicago District Golf Association (CDGA) Junior Amateur (77-76-71--224). In 2007, he won the 2007 Sangamon Valley Conference Tournament, posting a 75, and took meet honors at the 2007 IHSA Class A Sectional Championship, tallying a 72.
